“Tim Key, Tom Basden and Carey Mulligan are a disarmingly delightful trio in a quirky and music-filled comedy set on picturesque Welsh shores.” – Tomris Laffly, Variety
When “The Ballad of Wallis Island” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 25, The Daily Beast described it as having “whimsy, comedy, and emotion,” which earned it “one of Sundance’s biggest standing ovations so far.”
The story follows Charles (Tim Key), an eccentric lottery winner who lives alone on a remote island, driven by the dream of reuniting his favourite musicians, Mortimer-McGwyer (played by Carey Mulligan and Tom Basden). When his fantasy unexpectedly comes to life as the bandmates and former lovers accept his invitation for a private show at his home on Wallis Island, Charles faces the challenge of navigating old tensions. In his goal to fulfill his dream gig, he discovers the power of connection and the resilience of the human spirit.
